Resources

For Scouts and Parents

Boys’ Life Magazine – annual dues for Troop 28 include a subscription to Boys’ Life Magazine, which is mailed to the scout’s home 12 times a year; the online website includes equipment reviews, articles about scouts and troops, and material “just for fun”

BSA guide to Insignia Placement – Troop 28 is fairly forgiving about insignia placement and comprehensiveness, but BSA has specific expectations for where insignia should be placed. If you need assistance sewing on badges, please contact the Advancement Chair for recommendations for local services who will sew patches on for a modest fee.

For Adult Leaders

Scouting Magazine – feature stories, tips, and advice for adult leaders

Bryan on Scouting – a terrific source of information on all things Scouting including the excellent “Ask the Expert” Q&A

ScoutCast – the official BSA podcast; monthly episodes are generally about 15-20 minutes in duration and can be heard online or subscribed via Apple’s Podcast service

My.Scouting.org (online training center and learning management system) – source of position-specific training as well as mandatory Youth Protection Training

ScoutingWire – a weekly digital newsletter for Scouting parents and leaders

Troop 28 Reimbursement Form (Fillable PDF) – please complete and return to the Troop Treasurer along with a copy of your receipt(s). Please keep a copy for yourself.\

Adult Leader Registration Form – Print and complete a paper form to be turned in to the Council, or use the BSA My.Scouting.org site to apply online. Note: a social security number will be required and authorization for a background check. If you are using a paper form, you can leave the SSN blank and call the Council to provide your SSN, which will be keyed into the background check system and will not be stored on the BSA systems. If completing the online form, sign in using your existing BSA account (you can try resetting your password for your most-likely email, or contact the advancement chair to see what email is associated with your BSA adult account).

For Scout Gear

Scout Stuff – official BSA online shop for uniform, insignia, merit badge pamphlets, camping gear and more (note pricing for items at Scout Stuff is generally comparable to pricing at the local Council shop, and is almost always MUCH better than on Amazon.com)
