Join Us!

Glencoe’s Troop 28 is a welcoming troop. We understand that today’s scouts have much more on their plate than “just” scouting and are welcome scouts from those who only come on occasional campouts and hikes because they love outdoor adventure to those who are aspiring to earn every merit badge or the prestigious Eagle rank.

Since 2023, Troop 28 has partnered with Winnetka’s Troop 18 to host troop meetings, outings, and service projects. For 2023-2024, the combined troops will meet every other week, usually at Winnetka’s Christ Church on Maple Avenue. Troop meetings will be every other Wednesday in September and October, then will move to Monday evenings in November due to constraints outside of the troops’ control. Please visit the troop calendar for the latest details.

The troop typically sponsors additional activities including campouts and community service opportunities, approximately once a month through the school year. Scouts are encouraged to attend all meetings and events but are welcome to participate as much or as little as they are able.

Troop 28 welcomes boys aged 10-17, in grades 5 through 12 from Glencoe and surrounding communities. We have had scouts from area schools including Glencoe’s Central School, New Trier High School, North Shore Country Day, Loyola Academy, Solomon Schechter Day School, and Sacred Heart Academy. Prospective scouts do not need to have participated in Cub Scouts to join Troop 28 and are encouraged to join any time throughout the year.

Prospective scouts (and parents) are encouraged to visit a troop meeting or join us as a guest on one of our monthly outings.  Please email our scoutmaster for more information.

If you are ready to join, please visit our new scout checklist for information on registration, dues, and other details.

We look forward to welcoming you to Troop 28!

For Adults
Active parental involvement is a key success factor in scouting. While we do not need every parent to be involved, experience has shown that scouts get more from their experience if their parents participate, and adult volunteers from each family are critical to ensuring an enduring, vibrant troop in Glencoe. Parents are always welcome at troop meetings and on troop outings, and there are plenty of ways for adults to get involved as well.
For Girls
Although Scouts BSA (formerly “Boy Scouts” is a co-ed program, Glencoe’s Troop 28 is an all-boy troop. For girls interested in joining Scouts BSA, there are currently girl troops in Wilmette, Northbrook, and Winnetka, with more troops regularly being added; please contact Northeast Illinois Council or visit the Scouts BSA BeAScout site for the latest updates.
For Boys Under Age 11/In Fourth Grade or Below
Glencoe does not currently have an active Cub Scout pack. For scouts who are not yet old enough to join Troop 28, co-ed Cub Scout packs can be found on the BeAScout site in Highland Park and Winnetka. Or, if you are interested in re-vitalizing Glencoe’s Pack 28, please reach out to [email protected] for more information.
