Camp Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan 2024

A summer camp summary by Anderson:

Monday: In the morning I did lifesaving in the water for two hours. We had to do a 400 meter swim (16 laps) in the swim zone. After that, we had lunch. Then I had wilderness survival and environmental science classes. In the evening, we went to Personal Floatation Device (PFD) night and we all went out to the raft and swam around.

Tuesday: In the morning, I had life saving again. We had to put on pants, a shirt and a belt over our swim trunks. Then we had to take it all off, grab a lifeguard rescue tube, run across the dock, and jump in the water in under 20 seconds. I did in 12 seconds! Then we had the same classes as Monday.

Wednesday: In the morning, I had rifle shooting and we had to take a shuttle to the other side of camp to the range. We talked about all of the gun safety. Then we went to class again in the afternoon. After dinner, we went to the country store and we got 6 pizzas and 4 pitchers of soda for all of us to share.

Thursday: In the morning, I had rifle shooting. I got to shoot 30 rounds. Then we had classes in the afternoon and in the evening for wilderness survival we all got into groups and went to a remote area. Each group had to keep a fire going until 3:00am. We also had to build a shelter made of wood. The whole night was really fun.

Friday: There were no classes. We finished up some of the stuff we needed to do for environmental science and did a lot of swimming and open boating.
